Substitutions
- Frozen Soup Dumplings – feel free to try wontons or dumplings if soup dumplings are not available.
- Water – you can also use vegetable stock or chicken stock/broth.
- Japanese Curry Roux – I use mild curry base in this recipe. You can also use medium or spicy curry base, or even homemade curry paste.
- Soy Sauce – you can substitute with tamari or coconut aminos. Don’t use dark soy sauce.
Equipment
This is the pot I used for this recipe: Ceramic Pot
How to Store
Leftover curry sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. The soup dumplings, once cooked, are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store them in the fridge for 1-2 days if needed.
Top Tips for Success
- Be gentle with the dumplings. Soup dumplings are very delicate. Use a spoon to carefully lift them up to avoid poking a hole. While the soup dumplings are cooking, you can gently push the dumplings a few times with the back of spoon to ensure they are not sticking to the pot.
- Curry will thicken as it cools. Add a splash of broth or water to loosen it if it is too thick.
- Pair Suggestions: Serve your soup dumplings in curry sauce with a side of vegetables, like bok choy or cucumber salad, to complete the meal.
