Description

Festive red, white, and blue crinkle cookies are the perfect treats for any patriotic holiday!

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 10 drops red food coloring/gel
  • 10 drops blue food coloring/gel
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Using a standing or handheld mixer, cream together butter and sugar, until pale and smooth. Then add eggs, one at a time, and mix until smooth. Add vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  2. In a separate large bowl, sift and mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients (step 1). Mix just until combined.
  3. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. Take the chilled dough and divide it into three equal portions. If you’re using a scale, each portion should weigh about 280 grams. Add red food coloring to one bowl, and blue food coloring to another bowl. Mix until the color is evenly distributed. Leave the last bowl plain.
  6. Take a tablespoon of each dough and combine them as pictured. Use the palm of your hands to shape them into balls. Then roll each ball in a bowl of powdered sugar, making sure to coat thoroughly and evenly.
  7. Place cookie dough onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper, leaving space in between. Bake for about 15-17 minutes at 350°F.
  8. Cool the cookies on the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them onto a wiring rack. Enjoy!

Notes

Cookies can be stored in an air tight container for up to 5 days.
