WHAT IS SHA CHA SAUCE?
Shacha Sauce (沙茶醬), or often referred as "Chinese Barbecue Sauce," is a savory condiment made from dried seafood, shallots, garlic, ginger, chilies, and oil. Sha cha sauce is used in many different ways. It is commonly used for stir-fries, marinating meat, dipping sauce for hot pot, seasoning, or soup base. Sha cha sauce has a very rich and distinctive taste that can add umami flavor to any dish.
You can find Sha cha sauce in any Asian grocery store, or online.
INGREDIENTS YOU NEED:
- Beef (sirloin, flank steak, or ribeye)
- Sha Cha Sauce
- Garlic
- Cooking Wine
- Soy Sauce
- Sesame Oil
- Cornstarch
- Oil
- Scallions
- Dried Chili (optional)
HOW TO MAKE SA CHA BEEF STIR-FRY:
Marinate the Beef
In a bowl, combined sliced beef with cooking wine, soy sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Mix well to coat the beef evenly and let the beef marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Stir Fry the Beef
In a wok or cooking pan, heat 2 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for a few minutes until the beef is browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
Fry the Aromatics
In the same pan, add another 2 tablespoon of oil. Add garlic and sa cha sauce and fry for 1-2 minutes.
Add Beef and Scallions
Add the cooked beef back to the pan. Then add chopped scallions and dried chili. Stir-fry for a few more minutes until the scallions become soft. Taste and add more sa cha sauce if desired.
Serve
Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot with rice or noodles.

Ingredients
- 1 lb beef (flank steak, sirloin, or ribeye), thinly sliced
- 1 tsp cooking wine
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp sesame oil or vegetable oil
- 4 clove garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Sha Cha sauce, add more if needed
- 5 scallions, chop into 2 inch length
- 5 dried chili
- Neutral oil for frying
Instructions
