The weather is getting colder so it is officially soup season! I have so many memories around this wonton soup. My parents always have homemade frozen wontons on hands so whenever I am craving soup, they would always make this for me. Th broth is made with ginger, soy sauce, cooking wine, sesame oil, green onions, and fried shallots. All you have to do is bring the broth to a boil and then add the frozen wontons and some veggies. You can use either store-bought frozen wontons or homemade wontons. This simple dish is the definition of comfort food and it only takes 15 minutes!

WONTON FILLING
There are many ways to prepare wonton filling. The filling often includes a type of meat (pork or chicken), and/or seafood like shrimp or prawns. Then there are all sorts of seasonings, including soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper. For example, you can make this SHRIMP AND CHIVES WONTONS, SPICY PORK WONTONS, or CHICKEN WONTONS.
WRAPPING WONTONS
My favorite way to wrap wontons is using a tongue depressor. I was able to make 100 wontons in under 20 minutes! You can see the viral video here on how to fold wontons with a tongue depressor. I also wrote a blog post on how to fold wontons in 6 different ways, with video and step-by-step instructions!
FREEZING WONTONS
I love making a big batch of wontons and freeze them for later. That way, you can have delicious wonton soup in under 15 minutes whenever you are craving a comfort meal! You don’t need to cook the wontons before freezing. To freeze uncooked wontons, lay them in a single layer on a baking sheet lightly dusted with flour or cornstarch. Put the baking sheet in the freezer and freeze the wontons for 1-2 hours until solid. Then transfer them to a zip lock bag. Wontons can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
