Caramelized onion and garlic spaghetti is easily one of the most delicious noodle dishes I’ve ever made. If you’ve never had caramelized onions before, I highly recommend you try it. Caramelizing onions brings out the richness and sweetness, adding so much umami flavors to the dish! The key is patience. You want to slowly cook the onions on low heat to prevent burning or sticking to the pan. The wait is worth it, I promise!

- Unsalted Butter
- Olive Oil
- Onion
- Garlic
- Heavy Cream
- Italian Sesaoning
- Crushed Red Pepper
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- Green onion
- Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Chili Oil (optional)
HOW TO MAKE CARAMELIZED ONION AND GARLIC SPAGHETTI:
Caramelize the Onions
In a pan, melt butter over medium heat then add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add sliced onions. Cook the onions on low heat until they are brown and caramelized. This may take about 30 minutes or more. Cooking the onions on low heat can prevent the onions from burning or sticking. If the onions start to stick to the pan, add a splash of water to deglaze the pan.
Prepare the Spaghetti
While the onions are cooking, bring a pot of water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the spaghetti and set it aside.
Add Garlic and Sauce
Once the onions are caramelized, add minced garlic and sauté for about a minute, until the garlic is fragrant. Then add heavy cream, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, salt, and pepper.
Bring the sauce to a simmer. Then add cooked spaghetti into the pan and toss until well combined. Add more salt and pepper to taste.
Garnish and Serve
Garnish the spaghetti with chopped green onion, grated parmesan cheese, and drizzle some chili oil on top. Serve hot and enjoy!
