How to Make Crab Rangoon Dip
- Step 1: In a large bowl, beat or mix cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Make sure there is no big lump.
- Step 2: Add crab meat, sour cream, soy sauce, garlic, green onion (white parts), garlic powder, chili powder, salt, pepper, and ½ cup of cheese. Mix until well combined.
- Step 3: Transfer the filling into a baking dish and spread it out evenly. Top with the remaining cheese.
- Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes for 350F. Then broil on high for 5 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and golden brown on top.
How to Make Crispy Wonton Chips
Cut the wonton wrappers diagonally into triangles. If you can't find wonton wrappers, you can also use egg roll pastry and cut them into small triangle shape.
In a deep frying pan, add neutral oil and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (180°C). To test if the oil is hot enough, dip a wooden chopstick into the oil. If the oil sizzle, that means the oil is ready.
Drop the wonton wrappers in batches and fry until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towel to drain any excess oil.
How to Make Wonton Chips Without Frying
Method 1: Bake Wonton Chips in the Oven
Place the wonton wrappers in a single layer on a baking sheet or baking tray. Spray both sides with cooking spray and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Bake the wonton chips at 350°F for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Method 2: Air Fryer Wonton Chips
Preheat the air fryer to 350F. Place wonton wrapper in a single layer into the air fryer basket. Spray with cooking oil on both sides. Cook in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. (*Note that temperature may vary in different air fryers)

Top Tips for Success
- Use Softened Cream Cheese. Take the cream cheese out of the refrigerator 1-2 hours before making the dip. For the creamiest dip, make sure the cream cheese is smooth with no lumps before you mix it with other ingredients for the filling.
- Crispy Chips. Fry or bake the wonton chips in batches to ensure they cook evenly.
- Serve Immediately. The dip is best served hot immediately out of the oven, so make sure to serve it while it is still warm and gooey.
FAQ
- Can I make this dip ahead of time? Yes, you can prep the dip a day ahead of time. Simply assemble it in the baking dish, cover it, and refrigerate until you're ready to bake. Add a few extra minutes to the baking time if the dip is cold from the fridge.
- Can I freeze crab rangoon dip? I don’t recommend it as it may affect the texture and flavor. It’s best to enjoy it fresh for the best result!
- What can I serve with crab rangoon dip besides wonton chips? You can serve the dip with tortilla chips, pita chips, crackers, sliced baguette, or even fresh vegetable sticks (like cucumber, carrots, and celery) for healthier options.
- What if I can't find real crab meat? If you can't find real crab meat, you can use imitation crab. The texture will be slightly different, but the dip will still taste just as delicious! Just make sure to shred and chop the imitation crab before mixing into the filling.
